Peter Love
Adjunct Professor at York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies
Peter Love is an experienced and well-recognized leader in energy conservation and efficiency and is a respected environmental leader. He has held senior executive positions with a government agency, non-profit advocacy organizations, as well as two successful start-up private companies. Over his career, Peter has played a leading role in 15 corporate and non-profit boards, serving as Chair of seven and President/Executive Director of five; current appointments include founding member of the board of Energy Efficiency Alberta, volunteer president of the 165 year old Royal Canadian Institute for Science, and founding director of Rethink Sustainability Initiatives. He has also served on many Advisory Boards; current appointments include Chair of CSA Advisory Committee on Renewable Energy (ACORE), Manitoba Race to Reduce Advisory Committee, CMC Research Institutes Strategy Task Forceand Fortis BC’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Advisory Group.
Peter provides strategic and policy advice on energy issues for companies, governments and utilities with a focus on energy conservation/efficiency. He is President of the Energy Services Association of Canada (an advocacy organization he helped create), Adjunct Professor at York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies where he teaches energy/environmental policy courses, and a volunteer Cleantech Advisor at MaRS Discovery District.
In 2005, Peter was appointed Ontario’s first Chief Energy Conservation Officer with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) where his focus was on providing leadership in electricity conservation and advancing a Conservation of Culture in Ontario. Over the period of 12 months, Peter was responsible for managing the team that developed and launched ten programs and had begun development of a further nine programs in all sectors.
Prior to joining OPA, Peter served as Executive Director of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance and was co-founder/president of EnerQuality Corporation that develops and manages energy efficiency programs for new houses. No stranger to the concept of culture change, Peter began his career with the team at Pollution Probethat developed the 3 R’s of waste management: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Peter has a B.A. and M.B.A from the University of Toronto and ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
